Mark

Mark completed kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary School and began first grade this fall. He wasn't exactly excited to leave the comfortable confines of The K-G but is doing well nonetheless. Mark's biggest news of 2006 may have been his broken arm. He fell on the playground at school and another child accidentally stepped on his wrist. He had surgery to straighten the bone! When he wasn't injured, he passed many hours with swordplay, tennis, soccer, basketball, swimming, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and all manner of Star Wars toys.

Mark's Wish for 2007: To get a bird.

Mark's New Year's Resolution: To be as generous as possible.

Hannah

Hannah managed to make it through 2006 as the only Yamane kid not to break her arm. She completed 3rd grade and began 4th grade at Jefferson Elementary School. She really likes her teachers, Mrs. Hughes. At home, Hannah is constantly exercising her creativity, writing scripts for television/radio shows and commercials, performing skits, and doing art and craft projects. Outside, she spent alot of time in the pool, swimming and diving, and playing tennis and t-ball.

Hannah's Wish for 2007: To get a dog.

Hannah's New Year's Resolution: To pursuade her parents to get her a dog.

Paul

Like Mark, Paul broke his arm this year when he took an awkward spill on his Razor scooter. When he wasn't in a cast he played baseball, soccer, basketball, and tennis. In the summer, he played in his first tennis tournaments, which he enjoyed and is hoping to do more in 2007. Paul started 6th grade in the fall of 2006 at Hanes Middle School, Wake Forest legend and NBA All-Star Chris Paul's alma mater. Although he still plans to attend Notre Dame on a football scholarship, he is learning to love the Demon Deacons.

Paul's Wish for 2007: To make his middle school basketball team.

Paul's New Year's Resolution: TBA

Megan

Continued to ensure the survival of the family on a day-to-day basis. After working nearly full time as a volunteer at Jefferson Elementary School in the spring she cut back her hours to practically zero for the 2006/07 academic year. To keep her busy with children, she's continued teaching the 3rd grade Sunday School class at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Her last big deal of the 2006 was to donate her hair for cancer patients through a program called "Beautiful Lengths" (which is similar to Locks of Love which Hannah has participated in).

Megan's Wish for 2007: For the War in Iraq to end with no more deaths.

Megan's New Year's Resolution: To eat a rainbow a day.

David

David enjoyed a productive 2006. He published articles in Teaching Sociology and the Legislative Studies Quarterly, and his book on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults has received some positive reviews. He taught introductory sociology, the sociology of religion, and a new course in the sociology of vocation. He also continued editing the journal Sociology of Religion, and is looking forward to his first issue appearing in March 2007. Otherwise, he continues to play tennis whenever he can and to support Demon Deacon athletics in his free time.

Favorite Book of 2006: "Self-Made Man" by Norah Vincent

Favorite Album of 2006: "Blue Collar " by Rhymefest

Song of the Year: "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire

David's New Year's Resolution: To rediscover my equanimity.
